Before the proposal

What was meant to be a casual lunch on August 11, 2018 turned into a six-hour first date. On this same date Scott told Shreya her eyes were beautiful and mentioned that his granddad always said that even if years pass, the eyes never change. It was a simple comment, but it stayed with her.

On their third date, Scott traced words across Shreya’s back with his finger. When she asked what he was tracing out, he wouldn’t tell her. He said he would only share it one day if he ever made her his girlfriend.

Shreya returned to Los Angeles and as they continued long distance, it became clear that despite the physical distance between them, they were inseparable.

On August 15, 2019, exactly one year after they met, Scott asked Shreya to be his girlfriend. Not long after, she caught him tracing the same words on her back again. This time she asked him to trace them slowly and as he did, she realized his fingers were spelling out the words, “One day I will marry you.”

Scott planned the proposal by faking a brand collaboration. With some help, he convinced Shreya there was a work-related photoshoot in partnership with The Ritz-Carlton, followed by dinner. At the time, she was still creating content so it didn’t feel totally unusual. She kept telling Scott this was a work opportunity, to free up his schedule and that he needed to dress nicely because they were going to be taking photos.

She showed up dressed to the nines, completely unaware of what he had actually planned. During the shoot, the photographer had a code phrase to Scott to fix his pant leg. When he said it, Scott turned as if to adjust his shoe, then got down on one knee. It took Shreya a second to process what was happening and she had absolutely no idea.

After six and a half years together, Scott proposed at sunset at The Ritz-Carlton, Half Moon Bay and she said yes.
